India PC sales touched 19.7Lakh units in Oct-Dec 2009
The total PC market sales India touched 19.7 lakh units during October-December 2009 quarter, including an 25.7 percent year on year growth (October-December 2008 quarter), based on a strengthening of the recovery, according to the latest IDC data.

Desktop PC sales accounted for almost two thirds of the total PC shipments of 12.7 lakh units, representing a 14.6 percent year on year. However, the previous quarter to quarter basis (in the July-September 2009) there was a decrease of 12.8 percent of sales (shipments) because of the seasonal factor. "With several factors, including economic revival, technological developments, increasing importance for the users and the right price points, all converging, we are still at the beginning of a growth curve in the domestic PC market," said Kapil Dev Singh, country manager, IDC India.

The notebook PC sales increased by 52.8 percent over the previous year clocking 6.9 lakh units in October-December 2009. The desktop PC sales of 12.91 lakh units, which a year on year growth of 14.6 percent. Total India personal computer shipments have grown considerably in the last four consecutive quarters of 2009 following the removal from a peak of 22.6 lakh units in July-September 2008 to 15.6 lakh units in October-December 2008. Remarkably, home PC shipments (both desktop and notebook computers) rose a significant 38 percent year to year.

While this had long been expected lines from an industry standpoint, which was pleasantly surprised at the development from 57.0 percent over the previous year in notebook PC shipments to the large and very large enterprise businesses.
