Ford Co. brings smartphone Web Applications to cars

Ford Motor is doing their vehicles through a web application platform for drivers to access streaming media and other smartphone applications.

During the keynote on Thursday at the Consumer Electronics Show, Ford president Alan Mulally plans to show the latest high-tech interior Ford vehicles, including a redesigned driver, which allows the driver to access your smartphone applications through voice commands, the function of the synchronization software for your car. Cars equipped with the latest interface, Ford, called MyFord Touch will be available on some models this year, according to Ford.

The first three applications are available Pandora streaming music services, news services, audio and Stitcher, Twitter, "said Jim Buczkowski, director of global electrical and electronics systems engineering at Ford.

So instead of fiddling with the BlackBerry or iPhone while driving, consumers can use voice commands to navigate through the applications, he said. Internet connection is via a network connection your smartphone and the car phone to call the software via Bluetooth.

Ford created the application programming interfaces (APIs) that allow other developers to change the smartphone applications to work with sync. All applications will be available at the time, such as how consumers coach to operate more efficiently, but Ford plans to approve the proposals, which will be available, Buczkowski said.

Lincoln models will be the latest software with Sync standard models ranging from 2011 Lincoln MKX. Ford Edge crossover and the Ford Focus sedan will also have the latest Sync software, Buczkowski said, adding that the complete list will be announced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.

Mobile hot spots
Mulally is also scheduled to be announced connectivity options built off Ford's Sync software, which uses the Microsoft built-in car.

People can use the USB modem to connect to mobile networks and the creation of mobile Wi-Fi network in your car. The car itself will have Wi-Fi and let the driver when parked, Internet access via public Wi-Fi hot spot or home network, Buczkowski said.

"We are in decision-making is the use of (network) devices that are already on the market or will in the future," he said.

Giving drivers the ability to connect to the web application creates more opportunities for entertainment. But Buczkowski said that drivers are already on their smartphones in cars, and voice control is safer because it allows the driver to keep his hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
